[Oregon Coast GreenBlock Insulating Forms for ICF Home and Commercial Construction]
Thank you for visiting our website! His Construction doing business as Troyer Construction, LLC would love for you to use insulating concrete forms (ICF) for your new home! We've designed this website to help you see the wonderful benefits of using ICF forms to make your new home as energy efficient as possible. We have included as much information as possible including pictures and references to help you make informed decisions. In this day and age where the cost of everything is increasing, it's a great idea to cut your long-term energy costs without needlessly sacrificing your family's comfort. ICF can do that for you. We have personally built and lived in two ICF homes of our own and can testify personally to their amazing qualities.
As a general contractor with over 32 years experience, I have never been more impressed with a structural framework than I am with ICF. That is why I build my own homes with it and why I would not choose any other type. It blocks out outside noise of traffic twice as well as stick-frame houses; it insulates from heat and cold far better; and retains heat and cold far better than the traditional stick-frame homes. Hands down. It's not wood and doesn't rot like would does. Insects and rodents would have quite a time trying to get through concrete compared to wood. Think about it. There is far less opportunity for molds to grow in the ICF block than in wood-frame homes. ICF homes are also great for creating air tight structures which are useful for controlling/ monitering air flow and ventilation which is fantastic for anyone who suffers allergies but great for everyone else as well. Truly, there are way too many benefits of choosing Insulated Concrete Forms over the traditional stick-frame (wood) homes. Anyone who has lived in both could tell you.
"So why don't I see more ICF homes out there?"
Think about it. Have you ever come across a tool for your trade or a program for your business that you began to use and then have said "Where have you been my whole life?" That's kind of how ICF is for me. It has been around for years, but people tend to use (and look for) what they are familiar with. Most builders are used to stick-frame houses- they're cheaper to build and are a familiar process- "why mess with a good thing?" Well, because there's something better... that's why.
I saw an ad in the newspaper for a class on building ICF homes. It piqued my curiosity and I went. The rest is history. As the word gets out, the industry and demand for these homes will no doubt grow. The class I attended was for a company that only sells ICF to builders who have taken their class. When hiring a builder for your ICF home, be sure to use someone familiar with this product. It is not a hard process to learn and there is a lot of information and services available, but it helps to use someone who has experience with it to cut back on time spent dealing with the necessary details... much like any profession.
